Haven't done this in awhile. Back in high school the punchline was king. Lloyd Bank$ was really poppin, Cassidy was around, rediscovering Big L, etc. If you didn't have punchlines you couldn't rap basically. Definitely fell back on that as I matured as an emcee, but it's fun to go back.

This is an amalgamation of a bunch of verses I wrote last summer, and I cobbled together the best of em. So...chea slash cha'mon!

Wrote this a while back after I got the beat from Snare; recorded it awhile back, but not as far back as when I wrote it, and got some vocals with the same girl on To Make You Move. This is may be my favorite song I've ever done. Just me being honest without the usual hip-hop braggadocio slash materialism. When it's all said and done, after the fame and like whatever, if I don't have the things I talk about in this song my life might = fail.

The High School Me Would Be So Disappointed...

But this is absolutely how I feel. I remember when I first started rapping it was all about being "underground", "real", and "hip-hop"; anything else was sellout bullshit. Nowadays, I have a great appreciation for pop music and the songwriting that goes into making a great all-around hit. It may also be that "pop" is not exactly as looked down on in hip-hop as it was in the past. Maybe that's why we get "Laffy Taffy", "Crank Dat", "Pop Champagne", and so forth...It's not all going to be good, but the real artists are there if you look for them.

I guess it's like Eminem said,

All I hear is I'm the best at this and I'm the best at that/
But I don't hear my name no never brought up in rap/... 
But when they say one of the best I'm nowhere thought up as that/...
Not even the same league as Jay-Z, NaS, Pac, Biggie/...

Full disclosure: I am on the search for the perfect hip-hop cover. Maybe it's been done before, but most of the examples I can think of I wouldn't consider true "covers". Per se. Either they change all the lyrics (Big Pun & Fat Joe-Deep Cover '98) or too many of the lyrics (Def Squad-Rapper's Delight). I'm goin for either an almost exact replica or an interesting reinterpretation. Either way, I think the lyrics need to stay almost exactly the same.

This turned out different then how it sounded in my head, but I'm satisfied with how it came out. Maybe I'll come back to it. It's appropriate this would be the first song I attempt to do this with since Em is one of the reasons that I do music. "Things that make you go, 'Hmmmmmm'..." Anyways,

Beauty

Had the idea for this track for awhile. Just came to me when thinkin bout the lyric in Drake's "Best I Ever Had". I've always been a little astounded at what girls go through to get dressed up slash appear "attractive". Guys definitely aren't immune, including myself, but I think on a whole it's a different level if you're a female. I remember I spent the night with this girl I used to chill with, and in the morning she put on these glasses I had never seen her in before. I thought she still looked great but could tell she had some insecurities about her appearance without bein made up. So, this song about that. Kind of. More so the essence.

I also remember a conversation I was havin with Obiaj one day, and he mentioned how girls get their eyebrows removed then have some tattooed on. Fascinating. I'm sure I'll touch on this whole thing more in the future.

It's in the eye of the beholder, and I don't really discriminate, chaknow? Itiswhatitisknowwhatitisyouknowwhatitis.

P.S.-I notice I've done a few songs relating to females lately. It's weird cause that used to be ALLLLLLL that I wrote about, but now seein it happen so frequently is a little strange. Odd. The evolution a person goes through. It's also kinda funny cause I was told recently that the audience I should be targeting is females. Humorous; not that I disagree. But, no more digression. This track was a last minute edition to the School Dork project which is done, mostly (holla at me if you'd like it in it's (almost) entirety). I originally planned to do somethin over this beat (Big Gipp-Steppin' Out), but couldn't find the instrumental and thought it was unloopable for some reason. Coming back to it months later I realized it was and proceeded to do so. I like this cause it works as an example of my style changing and slash or transitioning, which kinda makes sense with the subject of the song and was not my original intention at all, from being so wordy slash trying to say so much in a bar.
