So, Farnsworth Bentley dropped one of the better mixtapes this year on the low. The beats are particularly crazy. So so, when I noticed there was a gap on one of the songs I knew it was for me instead of a maybe more popular rapper who could bring something like mass appeal or an existing fanbase to the table (nah, son).

But this is absolutely how I feel. I remember when I first started rapping it was all about being "underground", "real", and "hip-hop"; anything else was sellout bullshit. Nowadays, I have a great appreciation for pop music and the songwriting that goes into making a great all-around hit. It may also be that "pop" is not exactly as looked down on in hip-hop as it was in the past. Maybe that's why we get "Laffy Taffy", "Crank Dat", "Pop Champagne", and so forth...It's not all going to be good, but the real artists are there if you look for them.

I guess it's like Eminem said,

All I hear is I'm the best at this and I'm the best at that/
But I don't hear my name no never brought up in rap/...
But when they say one of the best I'm nowhere thought up as that/...
Not even the same league as Jay-Z, NaS, Pac, Biggie/...

Full disclosure: I am on the search for the perfect hip-hop cover. Maybe it's been done before, but most of the examples I can think of I wouldn't consider true "covers". Per se. Either they change all the lyrics (Big Pun & Fat Joe-Deep Cover '98) or too many of the lyrics (Def Squad-Rapper's Delight). Had the idea for this track for awhile. Just came to me when thinkin bout the lyric in Drake's "Best I Ever Had". I've always been a little astounded at what girls go through to get dressed up slash appear "attractive". Guys definitely aren't immune, including myself, but I think on a whole it's a different level if you're a female. I remember I spent the night with this girl I used to chill with, and in the morning she put on these glasses I had never seen her in before. I thought she still looked great but could tell she had some insecurities about her appearance without bein made up. So, this song about that. Kind of. More so the essence.

I also remember a conversation I was havin with Obiaj one day, and he mentioned how girls get their eyebrows removed then have some tattooed on. Fascinating. I'm sure I'll touch on this whole thing more in the future.

It's in the eye of the beholder, and I don't really discriminate, chaknow? Itiswhatitisknowwhatitisyouknowwhatitis.

This track was a last minute edition to the School Dork project which is done, mostly (holla at me if you'd like it in it's (almost) entirety). I originally planned to do somethin over this beat (Big Gipp-Steppin' Out), but couldn't find the instrumental and thought it was unloopable for some reason. Coming back to it months later I realized it was and proceeded to do so. I like this cause it works as an example of my style changing and slash or transitioning, which kinda makes sense with the subject of the song and was not my original intention at all, from being so wordy slash trying to say so much in a bar.

So, awhile back I was in my room about to watch ATL thinkin I was about to see some John Singleton-ness ish only placed in Atlanta so I was like, "Yeah-yer!" [/foreshadowing]. But, what I was greeted with was some happy-go-lucky tale of the shenanigans one can get into while living in the A. How fun! I was kinda disgusted. Thought I was about to see Boyz In Da Hood 2: In Da South, but what I got was a movie that's main plot point revolved around a skating rink...and skating...Granted that was the thing to do for the youth, but these dudes had a crew! And the bouncy BG music! WHAT!?

Anyways, this track has a story I feel like sharing.

So, DOOM put this beat on one of his Special Herbs & Spices way back when. I thought it was "E.U.G.H." from the moment I heard it, but didn't know how to approach it. Fast forward a few years to me hearing it as the intro on Born Like This and me bein like, Oh, he's fend to rip this. I been waitin years for someone to do this. Awesome! Then, he doesn't spit...but I'm like, Alright, the tracklist says the last song is called "Thank Yah" and that's what the sample says so it must come back at the end, and he rips it then. Cool. Good sequencing. I can't wait. Fast forward to me getting to the end of the album...listening to Freddie Foxxx speak...the beat comes on...and fadeout... ... .. . .... .. ...nada. I was sittin there like, WHAH!!. Forreal. I couldn't believe he still hadn't touched it. So, I had been wantin to write a song called "Wham Bam" so I figured I'd finally touch the track since I hadn't heard anyone else do so, and the chorus jus came about with the non-sequitur slash chalance slash sense of the verses and happened to fit the sample. Sometimes things work out.
